Our Team of Medical Professionals includes:
Dr. Gulzar Sachedina, FRCPC, LMCC - Medical Director
Dr. Sachedina is an Alberta Health Services anesthesiologist and Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Calgary Medical School.
Gulzar did his undergraduate studies at Montreal's McGill University, Medical school in Liverpool, and post-graduate anesthetic studies in Calgary. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada.
Dr. Sachedina has been Head of the Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain Service at Foothills Medical Centre. While there he started Calgary's first ever comprehensive post-operative Pain Service which has since been replicated in all of the cities hospitals.
Dr. Sachedina instructs the Advanced Cardiac Life Support program at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology. He is an active member of many societies including the American Society of Anesthesia, Canadian Anesthesia Society and the American Society of Regional Anesthesia.
Dr. Sachedina is a respected and busy member of the Ismaili Community where he has served as a volunteer in many leadership roles.
Kelly Morgan, BNRN - Nurse Manager
Our Nurse Manager has been with our team since 1997 and has held the Nurse Manager position since 2006. Kelly migrated west from the Maritimes in 1982 after graduating from the University of New Brunswick with a Bachelor in Nursing Degree.
Kelly started work at the Calgary General Hospital in 1982 as a staff nurse on the General Surgery unit specializing in abdominal and oesophogeal surgeries. She rose quickly to the position of Head Nurse by 1987. From there Kelly moved into the Opthamology operating theater before accepting her position as Nurse Manager here in 2006.
As the Nurse Manager of our facility, her focus is to provide highly organized, efficient, quality care to all our patients in a comfortable setting. She administers a quallified staff who are proficient in operating and recovery room nursing. Kelly is a strong patient advocate.
Kelly also works part time for the College of Physicians and Surgeons, performing inspections of Physicians' offices and clinics to ensure conformity with provincial Infection Prevention and Control Standards. We rely heavily on her experience and knowledge to ensure our Surgical Centre exceeds Board standards and remains a safe environment for our patients.
Dr. John Arraf, FRCPC - Anesthesiologist
Dr. Arraf has been on staff at the Foothills Medical Center Division of Anesthesiology and an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Calgary since 1997. He graduated medical school from the University of Saskatchewan in 1991 and completed his Anesthesia residency and subspecialty training in Interventional Pain Management at the Cleveland Clinic in 1997. He is board certified in Anesthesiology by both the Royal College of Physicians of Canada and The American Board of Anesthesiology.
Dr. Arraf has co-authored a chapter on pain management in the AO Principles of Fracture Management, 2nd Edition. He is an Advanced Trauma Life Support instructor and travels frequently on medical missions to the developing world.
